The Never Ending De-cluttering

It never ends you know....the De-cluttering.
Just when you think it's under control, something rolls out and makes you realize that it isn't at all organized.
Well, things do change. Gifts come and go...time passes and before you know it...what was Christmas is now after the 4th of July.
Our "gift wrapping department" went crazy somehow...
A week or so (more like three) ago, it occurred to me that the top of the armoire looked terrible.
(See how it looks today??? Much emptier...)
Too crowded with things I didn't need. Things I had held on to for so long...now longer "gave me joy".
Teddy bears, that were stored in hat boxes on top of the armoire...they needed to go away, get new homes....
So, I contacted my daughter and asked first if the boys could have a teddy...or three?
She said bring them by...but that they wouldn't take all....just let them look and see.
So, I did and they each took two. Perfect!
But no, she didn't want the hat boxes or the other Teddys...
Sad...but true my friends...
So, I bagged them and put them in the car. Along with many other things that I collected up and took them to Savers for new homes....
I am sorry if that offends anyone...but really. I am in my 60s and don't need bears. I did, save three...but I don't need more...
I also got rid of the hall runners I got many years ago....I could never get them to lie flat and stay put...they became trip hazards....and I am liking the look of just wood.
Once I did that...I started putting coats and the like in vacuum bags that you suck all the air out with a vacuum cleaner...
That gave me lots of room in closets....(I am kinda obsessed with these bags....)
I put blankets and pillows in those bags too...down pillows take so much space up, and you put them in those bags and voila! they are flat!
So, today, I continued....and worked on the wrapping cupboard......
Do you store boxes for Christmas and other holidays?? Yeah...
Here is my feeble attempt to organize today....just before my back checked out for so much bending...
I put the basket in to catch all the littler bags..the medium and larger bags are to the right...boxes will be on the next shelf...tissue below...
Anyone else have a catch-all closet??
I did find a basket to hold the wrapping paper...it sits nicely in the corner...
I have china on the floor...serving pieces that fit no where else...
I have been giving away clothes, wrapping that doesn't give me joy, and other odds and ends that I don't even know why I had them...
It is I have decided like the story that never ends. Because...life never stops moving...stuff comes in and goes out...
Meanwhile...somewhere there is a guest bed under the stuff I can't do today, because my back checked out...again....
But, believe me...this is an improvement! In the process, of organizing, I had entirely lost the bed...
Here is a question, for those who read this far.
How many extra pillows does one need for a guest bed? four? six? or two?
What is your preference?
Alright....enough for today....
Hope you are having a great day...
Nancy

I'm in the midst of doing that at home. Having the basement flood helped. Yes, I had those boxes from Christmases past that I knew I 'd need next year (or the year after) -- and yes, they got wet so I don't have them anymore! I've been taking clothes to give away and after the flood dumped 30 bags of trash and 15 bags went to charity, but it's just a start. I know what you mean about the teddy bears. I have more than my share, many handmade by me or friends that I hesitate to part with but I think the time has come for that, too. One room at a time!

Good luck! I admire your progress!

I hear you ... *groan* ... my guest bed has no fewer than five decorative pillows, but they're big. As for gift wrap ... mine is perpetually out of control. I could use an entire room for paper, tissue, gift bags, cards, boxes, stickers, et cetera. It's actually a dream of mine. Happy organizing! xoxo

Almost Good As New

If you have been reading the blog, you know what happens when you spray Lysol on Oil Rubbed Bronze door handles. Yeah, not pretty. And, a very expensive mistake...or at least it can be.
Behold....(as a reminder)

It basically just takes the finish off!
So, I asked you readers what I should use to fix it, not wanting of course to take the set off and take it to a refinisher who would charge upwards of $300 to fix it.....
So, One wonderful reader mentioned, Rub n Buff.....
That was an "Ah ha" moment.....
Except that around here, Rub n Buff seems to only come in gold, brass and patina....not what I was looking for.......
So, I went online and happily I found, Rub n Buff comes in a multitude of colors! Now, they don't have Oil Rubbed Bronze (that's too easy), but they had Ebony (black) which most closely resembles our Bronze color, as it is the darker one.....
So, I experimented on an inside door handle that was very brassy....
And although I am not going to show you the …

A Little bit of This and That

I need to sew, something everyday, or I get grumpy!
Today, it was a pillow....ah.....
I found a cross stitch panel that someone had done, and fell in love with it. It's actually a covered bridge, but it looks kinda like a barn...so I took it home, no idea at all what to do with it.
Today, it hit me....a pillow!
When I went to the closet, I found a pillow form....sweet!!
The panel was almost the right size, at least width wise....height wise it was a tad short. I measured and sure enough it was almost 5" different...so, I went to the closet again and found 2 1/2' strips from another project...perfect! So, I used those on each end....
So what about a backing....hummmm. I love linen. The family room, where this may end up is being painted a taupe grey....so into my drawer where linen lives, and there was a remnant from another project...grey linen....
So, long story short....I literally just stitched it together....and made it an envelope closure...that I stitched closed wit…

New Year's Resolutions....

Do you make resolutions??
What are they??
I am thinking about a few...
I want to clean the garage out...
reorganize a few cupboards....
Oh and don't even mention the closet.....
(Hubby did his....I haven't....)
Let me know what yours are....
(Really, if you don't make comments I am sad...and might stop posting and the blog might stop...)
