A Little of This, and a Little of That

Mother's Day was almost a week ago! I can't believe how fast the month is going!
I had mostly a quiet day with Hubby feeding me chocolate croissants and red luscious raspberries.
Then about 4, the troops came....
My eldest grandson was in a fit, because Mom wanted him to take a nap....his Dad was able to get him just to lie down with him for a short time on the couch.
Meanwhile, the littlest was running a high fever...so Mom put him in a tepid bath.
Needless to say at first, the peace and quiet....had left.
But fear not...the day did get better......
We went outside...even though it was a bit chilly...the sun was out and I desperately wanted to show off my Mother's Day gift...an all weather wicker loveseat!

I love this loveseat!
Hubby made it our adventure on Mother's Day...
We went to Big Lots...theirs was super cheaply made...
Then to Ace...they had one online in gray and it was cute, but not a sample on the floor...
then to Pier 1...theirs was on the floor and we feel in love with it. The cushion was separate...but both pieces were on sale...so Hubby said, "we will take it!"...
What a joy!
Now we have a "living" seating area and a dining area.
Also, the week before Mother's Day, I ordered and received new knobs for the cabinets in the laundry room. I had 4 leftover, so I put them in the family room. I didn't say anything to Hubby...he noticed just last night! LOL....anyone else have a hubby who isn't exactly aware of new things??
Anyway, I am off to the dentist...
Have a great weekend.

What a fabulous outdoor seating area. I really don't have a good outside spot -- well, I do, but it gets pretty buggy. At the lake it's better, because it's a porch. I adore your loveseat!

So glad all straightened out for the holidays!
Looks very nice seating … enjoy it.
Hope the dentist visit went well, I have an appointment with mine next week.

All the best Jan

Almost Good As New

If you have been reading the blog, you know what happens when you spray Lysol on Oil Rubbed Bronze door handles. Yeah, not pretty. And, a very expensive mistake...or at least it can be.
Behold....(as a reminder)

It basically just takes the finish off!
So, I asked you readers what I should use to fix it, not wanting of course to take the set off and take it to a refinisher who would charge upwards of $300 to fix it.....
So, One wonderful reader mentioned, Rub n Buff.....
That was an "Ah ha" moment.....
Except that around here, Rub n Buff seems to only come in gold, brass and patina....not what I was looking for.......
So, I went online and happily I found, Rub n Buff comes in a multitude of colors! Now, they don't have Oil Rubbed Bronze (that's too easy), but they had Ebony (black) which most closely resembles our Bronze color, as it is the darker one.....
So, I experimented on an inside door handle that was very brassy....
And although I am not going to show you the …

New Year's Resolutions....

Do you make resolutions??
What are they??
I am thinking about a few...
I want to clean the garage out...
reorganize a few cupboards....
Oh and don't even mention the closet.....
(Hubby did his....I haven't....)
Let me know what yours are....
(Really, if you don't make comments I am sad...and might stop posting and the blog might stop...)

Lessons We Learn as We Get Older....

I was raised by a Mother from New York. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas had to be perfect, the proper plates, glasses, silverware etc at the main meal. I grew up believing that is THE way to do it. But guess what? I discovered this year it isn't. A relaxed hostess, makes a relaxed atmosphere.
Yup, I had decided this year to get as much done ahead as possible, so when guests arrived I could enjoy them. I had heard such advice from people like Ina Gartner the famous cook who has written dozens of books. But never really put it in place, until yesterday.
It's really true...if you are relaxed and happy so will those who enter your home...
This year I went with really big dinner plates (they were from a thrift store...big Crate and Barrel plates) and simple place settings. I had a dinner fork, knife and spoon. I did have water glasses in addition to the wine glasses...but instead of filling every water glass...I put water in two bottles on the table. I embraced the "help you…
