What I've been doing this last week

We have been enjoying some much needed rain....they are calling it the miracle March. Getting all of our rain in one month!
While it rains I have been sewing and canning.
I canned 8 jars of pepper jelly...I found organic peppers at Vons...so I got busy. Unfortunately, some were very very juicy...and I had to recall four...which after recooking...brings it down from 4 to 2 1/2...sad....
But you know me if you read my blog...I love to can.
Besides canning....
I have been sewing....
My daughter has a friend in Austin, Texas that she is going to see...they are going to have a little girl...so I created a quilt to match their theme....Fairy Tales! I just happened to have a quilt panel that was actually to make a soft book...and cut it to become a quilt.

These beautiful done panels are so bright and lovely...I have started using for the very first time a clear thread....by Superior Threads....
It is called Monopoly....a fabulous thread that is a dream to use. I use their Bottom Line in the bobbin and the Monopoly in the top and it is so perfect!I didn't want to take away from the pictures in the quilt with a regular thread (I usually use a silk thread)...
When it is done I will show you....but I am quite pleased with it.
In between storms we played with the HurriK9 toy we got Molly at Christmas....
She loves this toy...and becomes a border collie...she collects and herds the rings....and her focus and body posture are like a collie's....

Funny girl...
In any case, she is not very good at actually retrieving the rings, or balls or whatever...
Love her anyway....
"Wow, Dad, did you see that??"....
 Her favorite person is Hubby.....
And yes, she is allowed on the couches....I have a hard time resisting this face....
Know what other face is hard to resist??
These faces....My eldest daughter (Auntie to the boys) or
this one....could you resist?? Me neither.....
Have a great rest of your week....
We are off to get Hubby's Cat scan to see if they killed the cancer....

Almost Good As New

If you have been reading the blog, you know what happens when you spray Lysol on Oil Rubbed Bronze door handles. Yeah, not pretty. And, a very expensive mistake...or at least it can be.
Behold....(as a reminder)

It basically just takes the finish off!
So, I asked you readers what I should use to fix it, not wanting of course to take the set off and take it to a refinisher who would charge upwards of $300 to fix it.....
So, One wonderful reader mentioned, Rub n Buff.....
That was an "Ah ha" moment.....
Except that around here, Rub n Buff seems to only come in gold, brass and patina....not what I was looking for.......
So, I went online and happily I found, Rub n Buff comes in a multitude of colors! Now, they don't have Oil Rubbed Bronze (that's too easy), but they had Ebony (black) which most closely resembles our Bronze color, as it is the darker one.....
So, I experimented on an inside door handle that was very brassy....
And although I am not going to show you the …

Christmas present and quilting

For my Christmas present, I wanted an Accuquilt Go, so Hubby got me one. And, since my birthday is on the heels of Christmas (Jan. 3), I asked for more Accuquilt die cutters. hummmmmmm
For those of you not familiar with what it is, it is a die cutter for fabric. It makes perfect cuts! Therefore, when you start quilting, you start with a square that is really square! It makes piecing a joy and much faster. You can cut several (up to 6 or 8 layers) at a time. For serious quilters or even beginners, it can be addictive. Imagine perfect applique figures or perfect shape pieces for piecing....yeah...addictive.
My darling husband and daughters got together on their planning and bought me so many dies that I should be busy for the next 20 years!

Here is a picture of me playing with scraps and cutting up fabric using the original die cutter it came with.....
All through Christmas time, I was wanting a red and white quilt to be able to throw over the couch in the livingroom, for that festive sp…

A Little bit of This and That

I need to sew, something everyday, or I get grumpy!
Today, it was a pillow....ah.....
I found a cross stitch panel that someone had done, and fell in love with it. It's actually a covered bridge, but it looks kinda like a barn...so I took it home, no idea at all what to do with it.
Today, it hit me....a pillow!
When I went to the closet, I found a pillow form....sweet!!
The panel was almost the right size, at least width wise....height wise it was a tad short. I measured and sure enough it was almost 5" different...so, I went to the closet again and found 2 1/2' strips from another project...perfect! So, I used those on each end....
So what about a backing....hummmm. I love linen. The family room, where this may end up is being painted a taupe grey....so into my drawer where linen lives, and there was a remnant from another project...grey linen....
So, long story short....I literally just stitched it together....and made it an envelope closure...that I stitched closed wit…
