Embroidering Diapers

Now that sounds funny I know, but, our daughter is expecting a new bundle of her own soon. And babies need burp cloths.
The best burp cloths are diapers!
When our grandson was on his way I did burp cloths with appliqu├ęs and such, but this time I just didn't feel "in the mood" to do that.
So, I hooked up the embroidery unit and let the machine do the work!
Then, I remembered that the other machine had some fun designs too....so...I had both of them going!
Yup, that's right, two machines....
The older Brother machine still does delightful embroidery...it just sucks at doing quilting anymore....(I am totally spoiled by the new one)
But, I got 5 diapers done in no time...

Cute huh?? I am still thinking of doing some other embellishment, but we will see...
It's nice to do something other than quilting for a change.
I have a quilt I am working on, a baby quilt, and I monogrammed it, well, almost...something happened and the machine just shut down! An entire square just wiped out...so I have to remove the square and redo it...
I took it out and got a new square which I monogrammed first...now it has to be completely redone....
So, doing embroidery was definitely a nice change....
Hope you have a great day!

Day by Day

Well, it was really crazy to take on a puppy. Tucker our older dog wants nothing much to do with her...and play is out of the question with him. Sad. We thought it would go better....
If he is asleep she can go lie down next to him...if she doesn't bite...
It's really harder than we thought...as it is more than potty training...it's not so smooth....
But on the bright side, we have had her about 10 days now and she has learned so much.
She knows some basics and has asked to go out probably 50% or more, so that's really good. Mostly, we are vigilant.
I am also tired...and old lady needs her "beauty" sleep...so I am not much to look at right now...LOL.
Our neighbors all love her...and we have been holding "court"....so we have support in the neighborhood as we do training...so we can actually leave her at some point....
It is hard...but will I hope be worth it.
Definitely, the last puppy we are having....
I love how she cuddles up at our feet when she wants to take a nap. Or just comes between your legs like a cat for reassurance.
She is super energetic at 6 am....so I am up...
Trying to get a good routine.....

She is really sweet most of the time...there are those times where all that pent up puppy energy gets the best of her. I can't wait to take her for walks. Unfortunately the vet said not until all her shots have  been given at 16 weeks...that another 6 weeks....yikes.....

Learning to Juggle....again

Juggling?? Yup but not with balls....with time and new routines.
Yesterday, I actually got in a little sewing while little Miss Molly slept a bit....
I started a new quilt for a boy so in a few days I will show you what I have....
The hard part at this point is getting the two dogs, One 12 yr old and the other an eight week old puppy with sharp little teeth to coexist in the same area and all the while teaching said little pup about "Outside!".
Then, at 2:30 throw in babysitting our grandson, who so wants to play with puppy, but puppy wants to bite.....

Yup, juggling!
Most of the time it was ok...
There were times it became frustrating. Thankfully, our grandson is now well into his "potty training" and that's good....(Molly, not so much)....
I had an activity book that I picked up, most of which was too advanced, but those stickers! Ah, an activity that doesn't require things being knocked over and then all onto the floor around the pup.
Yup, juggling.
Royce was really good about picking things up though...and putting them back in the toy box so Molly wouldn't eat them...
Molly has what we call "crazy dog times"....where she is so wound up she can't make up her mind...
I finally had to put on the little harness and leash the breeder sent her with...just to calm her down.
It helped. Phew!
Little boy running around.
Puppy running around.
Yup juggling.
Are we crazy? Yeah, probably. But if one looks into the future, just a little, it will be wonderful. I just have to keep the vision...keep up the training...keep up the faith that this is all part of the plan.
I get to go thrifting this morning with my friend.
"Dad" will watch the little dog...keeping up the training...but I get to get out!! Phew!!
I really had forgotten how much energy it takes to have a puppy( so one needs to be young and healthy to have kids and puppies)...and nothing, but nothing is sacred to a pup....
I did discover though that lemon rubbed on furniture legs or anything else that gets chewed on makes her stop and the lemon is residual!
So, yay.....
Have a great day!!

Puppydom

I had totally forgotten, after almost 10 years, what puppies are like. They are quite exhausting and I have been sleep deprived....
An 8 week old puppy gets up at least every 2 hours to go potty...and getting a routine down of any sort is difficult. It is having a baby in the house.
Tucker our eldest wonderful dog, has been not exactly thrilled with this little ankle biter. But, as each day goes by, he is better...and much to his chagrin, she is staying.
We finally put a baby gate in the doorway of the laundry room, that helps a lot. She hates being confined, but when it's nap time, she loves it. So do I. It means I can get something done and she is safe.

Miss Molly got her first set of shots yesterday...an absolute must here in a metropolitan area...She slept most of the time and I was worried that she'd be up all night, but she wasn't! Amazingly, she slept and woke as always, but this time did potty right away and then, much to everyone's relief, she went right back to sleep. I guess she is getting it! Yay!
I needed a separate bed just for her and made a little one from scraps and filled it with batting scraps! She loves it...and much to my joy one of the fabrics had Scotchguard! Good thing with an untrained puppy! She woke and piddle just came out all over her bed....and happily it just rolled off! And I rinsed it and sun dried it and its back to work. Yay!

Happiness is warm puppy...and one who takes naps!
Have a great day...

Puppy In The House

Well, Miss Molly has arrived!!
We have some sleep to catch up on!!
Overall, she is adjusting quite well. After all, she is only 8 weeks old and last night was her first night with us as her new family.
Me, well, I'll get a nap in...my "mommy ears" were listening all night, so I didn't sleep as much as she did!
Here she is playing with our Grandson....after dinner, he didn't want to leave....pretty darn cute!
So, our work is cut out for us. It may have been a silly idea to put a pup in our household...but what a grand adventure...and hopefully eventually Tucker, our 12 year old lab, will adjust to the little ankle biter.....

Bits and Pieces

Much like the quilts I make, life is made up of bits and pieces that go together. Sometimes they are a crazy quilt others it is a precise and wonderful quilt.
But, life is like that....
This is the quilt I finished for our daughter's baby due in November....she is going to hang it on the wall.....

This is part of my harvest this week.
Yesterday, included sweet potatoes and tomatillos...wanna know why I harvested potatoes and tomatillos early????
Well, we have a new addition coming on Weds.....
and well, those sweet potato plants and tomatillo plants are dreadfully poisonous.....
have you guessed yet??
This dog, Tucker, has been dreadfully lonely and sad since Belle died.
Actually all of us have been.
She won't be easy to forget.
But.....
we found a puppy that needs a home....
here is her present family....

So on Weds we will get Miss Molly !!
We've been getting ready to have a puppy!
Yes, we might be a little nuts...a puppy at our age....
but she is very sweet....and will be 9 weeks old when we get her....
Exciting....
Have a good weekend...

A Change in Front

Small changes in decor, inside or out, can have an impact. First, you want it to be you...a touch that is yours...not something from a magazine or other...but a reflection of you ...no, not a mirror...well, it could be a mirror...but not this time.
Last week, my friend and I did shopping...we shop thrift stores and such.
As I walked into the Assistance League my eye caught a glimpse of something and I did one of those swivels...when your head turns so fast it almost gives you whiplash. Know the feeling??
Well, I called my friend over and she agreed...I had to take it home.
I wasn't sure where exactly it would go, but, I had an idea in mind....

There was an old wreath that has hung here for about three years (ok, maybe more) which always seemed fine, but then I found this....
What drew me to it...the colors, the wording (all in French by the way)...it says, "au petite garden...maison des fleurs!
(translation...the little garden, house of flowers...
I have been calling our house "La Maison des Fleurs" for years...a fun way to greet guests and I even embroidered special towels with that to be like a hotel...
The new addition is pretty well protected from the weather...though it will have sun exposure...so it probably won't last forever...but that's ok....
For now...it suits beautifully , especially with the black bench, cast iron urn, and my little chandelier now actually shows! Not a bad find for $5...it was one of those "Ah Ha!" moments.....
Have a great day!
