Wistful In Wyoming

So, if you have been wondering...we were on vacation!
Fresh air, open spaces, no traffic, no deadlines, no worries!
We went to Wyoming!
We first went to a conference that was held at a Dude Ranch, called Gros Vente (pronounced Grow Vaunt) River Ranch.
We also had a chance to play!
We rode horses.
Hubby Fished. I read and hiked and took lots of pictures!
The Dude ranch is highly marked in the big leagues, and boy due they measure up!
The "cabin" was fantastic, complete master suite with a large sitting area so you can just sit and enjoy the view!
The fun thing about it is it is clean and well managed, having your bed made every morning while you are off to breakfast...and then turn down service while you are at dinner.
It has a safe if you wish to lock things up, but there isn't a key to the room. It is more like grown up camp with a luxury twist than a hotel or regular dude ranch.
The views are so spectacular!
Every day while you are in the dining room having the most wonderful and delicious meals, you look out onto the scenery around you which might include a bald eagle flying by the window, or a moose wading in the river below.
Hubby and I bought hats (with stampede straps as recommended) and boots that we broke in before hand....but you don't have to...they have loaners at the barn if you wish.....
Ok, hokey picture of us at the airport....but going to Wyoming, one needs to just kick back....
So, What about the rest?
After a couple of little seminars we were on our own....we made new friends and rode and ate and ate and took lots and lots of pictures!

Yes, that's us....he is wearing his fishing hat as we had just come back from a guided fishing trip....all included .......

This is one pasture that shows the cabins in the distance....and the Gros Ventre mountain range.....

Wild asters.....

This is the mound of horse shoes....awesome art I think.....
This is the guest side of the barn....
One of many pictures of the stables...there are more horses, but we had the later ride so they were out. There are 86 horses (counting the yearlings...)
This is the BBQ on Lucy Hill.....

This is the view from one of the rides we went on....it is known as Lucy Hill....
A view of the Grand Tetons from a trail head.....
This is Taggert Lake that I hiked up to with friends....

After playing at the ranch( I highly recommend this ranch, it is expensive but when you consider EVERYTHING is included right down to the wine and sodas etc served at night, horses...you name it).....
we went to Jackson (30 mins away) for two days...we stayed at the Rustic Inn....
There are great shops and restaurants in Jackson, if you haven't been....you must....
Then, we stayed in Jackson Lake lodge and visited Jenny lake.....which these pictures are from....

 Jenny Lake Lodge....
This picture is from one of the marinas on Jackson Lake....you can rent a boat there, which we did....great fun as at this time of year, hardly anyone was on the lake!

So, why wistful?
There were views that you'd want to drink in.
Open views with nothing but space....elk, bison, antelope, moose, beavers, and so on.....
Wistful because you know at some point you have to go back to the "real world" and back to traffic, people and crowds...
So, we are back....and I loved sharing with you a really unique travel destination.
Well, I must unpack and wash a bunch of clothes....
Have a great day.
Nancy
