A Project in Motion....

Well, we are gonna do it....
We are going to redo the patio.
It is a BIG job, and has been put off for 26 years.
Compromises are gonna be made, along the way, but it will get done....
And one thing leads to another....
So let's start with the beginning....
The patio was laid before we bought it, roughly 30+ years ago.
It has become uneven and cracked, in part due to the huge and wonderful jacaranda tree that shades the yard in summer and provides bluebird habitat....
Also, It was laid perhaps incorrectly...we aren't sure....
Each slab section was divided by pieces of wood...most of which are gone or almost gone because of termites, rot, and age....
Each slab section is up or down or both....

So, here is the view from the back door...There is a step (we use yellow tape to warn some friends not paying attention)....The step is the grade of the yard...we aren't going to redo that...we'll keep the step...

This is the view as you walk around the back of the house...the patio is big and we have a big table...
What you see here is the large slab of plywood that will make any table seat 10....
We have lots of folding bistros that we have from Ikea (for large parties) and the iron chairs we inherited from Hubby's Grandmother.
See the lines? Those are the wood or used to be wood dividers...many "slabs" have cracks, some big,
some small, some are very new and getting bigger.....
Figuring on doing the table has put several things into the way and therefore being considered.
See those cracks?? Yeah, a few years ago, I went around an patched. Hubby had a neighbor in cement come grind some of the uneven parts....now everything is more cracked and uneven...
And that chair??
Well, there are six, antique chairs, made of iron and they are beautiful, but the original feet have come off and the chairs are heavy, and will damage any new patio....I have tried in vain to put new feet on the chairs...all have failed.
So, now, we are looking for new chairs that won't damage our soon to be new patio.
What patio?
Well, we are planning to do pavers. Big pavers. They are going to be Belgard Rustic Slab pavers.....and the chairs need to be replaced.
Funny.
All this time I thought Hubby loved those chairs.
I found out today, he never did!
Wow.
I have nurtured and cared for those chairs all this time! Recovered and cleaned and mended those chairs....and he never really liked them.
So, knowing that a new patio is gonna go in, we went looking to see what was out there for dining chairs for outside.
Wow. What a shock! They are stupidly expensive!
I've done all the online shopping.
We went to seven different stores...
I thought I found them at Living Spaces which had a couple that I liked, but the truth is sitting....he liked one I loved the other.....so we moved on....
He'd rather pay more for something we both love....
Go figure!
So, as the clock ticks away...I am thinking we can sell his Grandmother's set at the neighborhood garage sale before the patio goes in and new ones will be here or soon after....
We don't need a table, the table is a lovely one that Hubby made us and the slab of plywood works for large parties....
Oh, and by the way, the other day I realized our outdoor lights by the doors were not so great....so I have ordered some from Amazon to see if those will do...cute barn lights....
We will see....
I show those in a day or two....
Oh and if anyone is local and interested there is an antique table that is roughly 36" square made with Catalina tiles, (and rusting) and is for sale.....
Hope your weekend is great!
Nancy
