The rain barrel

Some of you read that we ordered a rain barrel. It did of course arrive after the rain....which might be the last rain this season...or not. Hubby woke up this morning, went to get his paper and the box was on the front porch.
It is Khaki, which of course is not going to be the color of the house...no matter....
It doesn't have a lid. Hummmmm. We do not have gutters. Hummmmm

It is however more designed for long term storage of water than the garbage can that Hubby bought.
It has a flat back, designed to be stored up against a house. It also has a nice sieve on the top.....
I am disappointed it doesn't have a lid. It makes cleaning difficult. No matter though, the point is to store water for the garden.
Hubby plans to siphon the water from the trash can to the storage tank. Until such time as we put in a gutter system, this extra work is fine. It gives us a chance to filter out debris from the roof....
But now we have to wait for the painters to finish with the house....in about 3- 4 days....Hummmmm
Here is the info, should you be interested in one yourself.
We ordered from Amazon....cheapest price point and a good selection of brands out there....
This one is made in the US, which we appreciate....

Since we are having a serious drought in California, this is a good idea....even just a little. Right? 50 gals will be great to have.
Just letting you know what we are up to....

My grandmother always had a rain barrel to water with and so did my Dad. Good for you for doing your part to conserve and use water wisely. You know the pictures show that it has a cover(?) What's up with that? We always had some kind of screening over top of it to keep the yucks out of it-including small animals that come to water and fall in (which does happen). xo Diana
