Frenzy

Anyone else out there thinking about Christmas?
It is as if the other holidays have come and gone and I have gone into a  "hyper-drive" to kick start Christmas items in my store.
So far the wine tags for wine glasses were not even remotely interesting to anyone....so those were abandoned to Christmas stockings and table runners, which seem to be more interesting. I like making those more anyway.
So, over the last couple of days, while dog sitting my wonderful dog Belle, who is still recovering from surgery, I have completed a few things....
This is a pillow COVER that I made, 22" square. It is only a cover, the pillow form is not included...this makes it easier to ship for me and cheaper for you....
Then I created a quilted table runner for Fall....with an eye on Thanksgiving, but suitable for the whole season!
Done with long strips that have been quilted and is reversible....(no the pumpkins are not included LOL).....
And then I started making stockings.....
I found non-conventional fabric, because honestly I wanted them to go with decor and be pretty before and after the holiday....

Actually, this one has not been posted to the store...I am liking it next to the grey paint....but if you are interested, let me know (wildoakdesigns@gmail.com) and we can talk....there are two of these...
I am planning on some more, but the next ones are already spoken for. Imagine that.
Remember to look at the items in the store...and remember too, we take credit cards with Etsy's help, so purchases are easier than ever!
Anyway, off to take Belle out; hope you have a great day!

Sewing for Christmas

Ah, Fall....
Gosh, it means Holiday sewing!
I finished a Fall holiday table runner, which I will show after I sew on the binding.....
But I did play with the Christmas stocking pattern that I had.
I wanted something unique, not the  typical Christmas fabric, more decorative that goes with other decor....so my daughter and I went to the fabric store and found some really cool fabrics. Unique...and stunning.
So, here is what I came up with today....

Yeah, I had fun....In fact, I rather like these next to my taupey gray paint...hummmm.
Anyway, watch the store....stockings will be showing up...
What did you do today?

My Bumblebee

Tucker the senior dog, has been very good about Belle's injury and helping her and being patient about the fact that well, she does get more attention....Afterall, she had knee surgery....
So, today, Tuck got to try on his costume! what a ham! Wow, he posed and pranced about so excited and then of course paraded in front of Belle's pen....

Seriously, he was a ham!
It was good to see him have some fun....

Changing out the drapes

Today, in the early morning, it was actually cold. A couple of days ago, I had to put a blanket on the bed and the chill in the family room and kitchen was proof that it was time to take down the white linen drapes and put up the old brown thermal drapes.
It has been a while since I bought these drapes at Linens 'n Things (which closed roughly three years ago). These are a "silk" like drape that has a flannel lining in the middle so they are wonderfully warm for winter nights. Our dual pane windows are still cold when its cold outside...
(Yes, they are a bit wrinkled and lumpy...they are 7 years old and have been washed and dried and then hung up in the closet.....)
This is the family room corner, my Mother's desk almost disappears with the dark chocolate colored drapes....in the foreground is a chair that I got at a garage sale ($5) that I recovered, all by myself with a grain sack...(I love grain sacks!) (My favorite place to buy grain sacks is grainsack.etsy.com)

Here is a shot of the other corner...our messy bookcase and collection of baskets, the lap quilt I made for the room...
The color on the wall is Cappuccino from Restoration Hardware...
Sorry about the angle of the photo here...A picture of a corner of the dining room. The color on the wall is bamboo beach.
So, I will be pulling drapes closed again, to keep us snug and warm, even when the days go up to 80, the nights get cold...seems almost foreign after we had so many hot days and night....
So, that I know people are reading I would love some feedback on what other colors you would use for the drapes and where to get them....as these are beginning to show their age....I would love some input...
I especially think it would be nice to have drapes that I didn't have to change with the season....thoughts on that??

Post Octoberfest

Well, our Octoberfest has come and gone.
Overall, it was great fun.....
The weather predicted actually happened and our plans had to shift to plan B...it rained, so everything had to move inside. It stopped drizzling just enough for the little kids to pick their pumpkins, which was the fun outside. They took that time to run around the raised beds and enjoy the outdoors, as you scrunch 17 people inside with set tables, it got cozy.

Even as we set up we knew it would be a bit cozy...

The bench I got was perfect for the one mother with her two very busy little people, it helped corral them long enough to eat....
There was a ton of food, I always "over-do" the food, and we had hors d'oeuvres and then chicken brats, chicken and apple brats, pork brats, sauerkraut, German potato salad, Sauerbraten (recipe from Food network, Alton Brown), green salad, pasta salad, rolls and then dessert.
After we all ate it was pumpkin carving time. We set the front foyer up with drop cloths and little tables and everyone got into it! The contest was on!

We gave prizes for most unique, best classic and a kids category. Of course by that time, children were getting more than tired....
We enjoyed all the desserts and everyone took home carmel apples, chocolate apples and cake.

With the last person out the door at 9pm, I think the party for a first year, turned out pretty good...
Maybe next year we will look for an easy up or two and be able to spill outside should the weather turn, well, into Fall.
Happy Fall everyone!

Harvest cast of characters

Well, our Octoberfest is tomorrow.
We have spent the day gathering all the cast together....

Since our pumpkin seeds must have been old or just plain bad, we had to buy pumpkins. We bought a few from Trader Joe's and some from Vons, and some from Sprouts.
I have always wanted a farm, where every Fall, everyone would come and do the pumpkin and apple thing. We decided why not just recreate the farm??
So, our back lawn will be transformed into a pumpkin patch!
My daughter and I went to JoAnn's and found Fall decorating goodies for 60% off, so we got a bit carried away....oops.
Here is the basic cast for a photo shoot. The plan is this bench will be the photo op for the children (and adults) to have their picture taken. The bench will be moved for seating at dinner time....
I thought that was all cute with the corn stalks we bought from a local farm, but one of my favorites was this little stand-up scarecrow (not scary) and the pumpkin sign....yes, at JoAnn's!
In addition, we did carmel apples and fudge apples today.....

So, the cast is ready for tomorrow. Watch to see the fun, I will post the pictures....
Happy Pumpkins!

Craigslist find!

Okay, one of the problems I have with party gatherings is the issue of seating. I have been thinking about a bench or two for ages....
Well, I considered buying picnic benches online, but they were $100+.
And, I thought a cuter bench would come in handy for gatherings inside too....hummmm
So, I watched craigslist, and soon, sure enough, I found one!! And, it was in my neighborhood!
Wonderful....$45!
So, here it is....

A little "shabby" but darling...It is solid, will hold three people and I probably will repaint it, after our party.....
What do you think??

Autumn business

Well, few showed up to our garage sale....sad.
But, one has to move on to the next project.....which in our case is what we hope will be an annual event, our Octoberfest.
I spent the day with Hubby shopping for whatever we could get ahead so we went to Costco, Vons and Trader Joe's. Our Trader Joe's was down on their selection of pumpkins, but Vons had some unique ones for a change....
I also rearranged the furniture in the family room, and made Belle's "castle" move as well (which will not be out for the party)...now Belle can watch TV and be closer. She has been a challenge this week. Yesterday and then today...today I woke up to her sitting in the "castle" quite content with herself, with no "cone" on her....and her surgery area well scrubbed by her tongue. All day I fretted about it, but aside from being a little puffy, it looks okay.
When I finish rearranging the furniture and decorate, I will take a picture for you to see. I does make the room seem bigger....
What did you do today??
I would love to hear from readers....

Thornwood's Diamond Belle

If you read my blog, you know that our yellow labs, Tucker and Belle, are important family members.
A few of years ago, Belle's ACL (a ligament in the knee) was torn during a doggie play date. It required surgery, and a whole lot of time and care. Then, about 6 weeks into recovery, she slipped on the floor and tore the meniscus in her knee....and they had to go back in and fix that...again, more time (not to mention $$) and pain for the dog. At the time, Belle was 2. She wasn't better until she was 3.
 Belle at 14 weeks...
 Belle this summer....

Saturday, Belle turned 5 and had pulled out lame, very lame on the other leg.
And to top it off it made an awful popping noise.
So, we went to a different vet because he came so highly recommended and he offered physical therapy treatment for follow up after surgery and a different approach to drugs, which were an issue before.
So, if you don't hear from me....I am being a nursemaid to my pooch. She is again recovering which will take a whole lot of time....
Tucker is being a great helper and patient with the change of pace.
I hope to share pics at physical therapy, but we will cross that bridge when we get there.
Take care and give your dog a hug, they are special members of the family....

Shifting gears....

Lately, the cost of shipping has gone up, just as everything else has.
It is getting harder to make it easy to get cork trays and trivets into the proper boxes and off for shipping at a decent price for our customers. So, the trays and trivets we have left will be on sale at our garage sale, October 13th! Save a bundle if you live in the LA/Orange County area!
3030 Madeira Ave., Costa Mesa, CA 92626
We will also have all of our pillows on sale as well. Save a bundle on those as well.
We will not be having those in our Etsy store anymore, as much fun as they are to make, it is just too hard to get them to you, our loyal customers.
As an added bonus, if you are a "treasure hunter", the entire neighborhood of about 700 homes will be having a garage sale....if you don't find what you are looking for here, you might find it somewhere else in the neighborhood...so come on, and give us a visit!!
Below are pictures of some of the things that we have on sale!!!

Also available are some re-done chairs and a table....

And of course we have trays!!
There are two square trivet/trays and a couple of handle trays.....Hope to see you there!!
Let us know if you saw this posted here and get a bonus!
Remember, Sept 13th starting at 8 am!!

Quilting

It has been months since I sat down and did free motion quilting with my machine. And I really needed to just "play", you know what I mean??
I mean with all that has been going on, I had put it on hold. But, now, it is Fall, and it is time!
I had purchased this Thimbleberries panel several months ago from Ebay, and I found it when I was cleaning up and organizing. It is a panel that looks like it is patchwork, but is printed. Just perfect for practice!

So, here it is, all quilted and waiting for its binding and then it will go to the store...or maybe I will give it to me! I don't know we will see......
Have a great evening...
