Bridal Shower Power

So, for the last few days I have been shifting gears, so to speak. We are having a bridal shower for 30 here on Saturday. I have been arranging, and rearranging tables and chairs to fit everyone in for a "garden luncheon" shower. It will be fun.
Have you ever counted your plates and kept coming up with a different number? After the anniversary party that's what I did...turned out that plates were put in the wrong place or in the dishwasher, but long story....I had to go to get more white plates. Darn....(LOL). So, I went all my usual places and ended up at TJ MAXX. There I found perfect plates....and great prices! Yay, now I have 30 plates!

I love them, and it was hard not to get way more than I needed...the bottom one is from a company that I adore in Portugal....
Many of my platters are from there...
So, I have been watering the plants and trimming and pruning and feeding, trying to get the plants and flowers to cooperate...I think they are!

This hollyhock is amazing!! Super ruffly (is that a word?) and full! I love it next to the mirror....
Have a great day!

Anniversary Party

Our party that I have been talking about for months, has come and gone...
From my perspective, it was a smashing success. I have never had caterers before and now I could be hooked....Bristol Farms did the catering. Oh my gosh, so wonderful! Excellent food, excellent service and catering allowed us to be at our own party. Yes, it costs...but you have someone who not only serves drinks and food (we used it as a buffet) then they cleared, washed, dried all dishes and silverware. They cleaned up everything! The only thing I need to do today, is put away dishes and silverware....really. It made it fun!
So, here are some pictures...caution, lots follow....

We used mismatched community silverplate....
We used mismatched white plates...that is fun...

My daughter and her husband in front of the bar....
My husband and I in front of our anniversary fountain....
Both of my daughters and Rob....

All of us in front of our arbor...
It was a lovely party....I would definitely do that again!!!

Anniversary party set-up

Today was a busy day. We set up and organized the tables and chairs, the bar, the flowers etc...just as we all do for our parties, no matter how small or how large the party, the planning remains the same.
For a garden party, the flowers become center stage...I pruned, trimmed and fed all the flowers and plants in the backyard and the front. I am pleased to say that the planning and feeding at certain times has pretty much paid off.

We moved furniture around and changed the "flow" of the patio and backyeard so hopefully guests feel like wandering about a bit and exploring...but if they don't we have places to have them sit....

We filled a basket with pashiminas in case anyone gets cold, and we have blankets as well....as here near the coast one can get cold on a summer day in the evening...
We played with tulle and ribbon on the candelier and decided that decor will wait for the bridal shower next week....ribbon will suffice tomorrow...
and then, I set up the "menu" area...more pictures will come tomorrow or the next of the tablescapes ....
Peace...I hope you follow along....

New ideas for your kitchen

My hubby and I slipped away for a day and a night to the Hotel Del Coronado.
On our way we stopped in Solana Beach at the Cedros Street markets. There are all kinds of fun stores to explore there. One of those stores is the Temecula Olive Company, right there in Solana Beach. Oh my, a "toy store".

As you can see, we brought home some "toys". We bought two jars of stuffed olives and one bottle of olive oil with basil and a bottle of white balsamic with pomegrante. Oh the trouble I could have gotten into! And then Hubby fell in love with an olive wood bread board....He liked the smell....and it was a decent price, so that was our "Anniversary" gift to each other. Afterall, each year we get one gift we find together to mark the anniversary....so that was it! I can't wait to use it....very cool....
Can't you imagine serving cheese and bread on that board? Using the olive oil to marinate chicken and the pomegrante vinegar in a salad?? oh yummmmmm....
Have a great evening...

Our 35th Anniversary

Yesterday was Father's Day. What a delightful day it was.....
We celebrated with my Father-in-law, our daughter, Melissa and her husband, Rob, at their house, our other daughter, Emily. Rob's family also came which made it so much fun.
And today, is our 35th Wedding Anniversary!
I cannot believe it has been 35 years! Time certainly does fly.
So we are going to enjoy our day....
Here is a picture of us, 2 years ago (there aren't many pictures of us together as Mr. M tends to be behind the camera)
Have a great day!

Finished!!

They finished!! Yippeeee!
Kobi and Spencer did such a great job! I think the tile looks so wonderful in this space. Tres Magnifique!

And here is the laundry room that sits on the other side of this door....

And look where I keep the laundry detergent....
Hope you have a great weekend and Happy Father's Day....

Tiling on Thursday...

So our "mini-makeover" is moving along...
While the guys were out to a late lunch, I took some shots on the progress.

The second picture is a better picture of the tile than the first. It shows that yes indeed the bathtub is a beige color more than pink....
I am so excited!

The guys came back...and finished tiling the laundry room...Have I told you how much I love this tile?? Anyway, it looks great....
They will return tomorrow about 9:00 to grout the tile and set the toilet...oh so exciting...
When they left, we had dinner and some champagne. We are tasting champagnes for our party.....
Our dinner was simple...chicken quesadillas made with colby jack cheese, chicken, Stonewall Kitchen onion jam, and arugula...tres yummy!!!

The "champagne" was a sparkling white wine made in Spain, which was recommended by Hi Time Cellars here in Costa Mesa....they are great at helping with different questions and all....
Mr. M is still super fond of Schramsberg  "champagne". It's price made it hard to decide when you need enough for 20....so we tried this new one....It is very yummy, and inexpensive....but he wants something very special for our 35th anniversary party.
So, new bathroom and laundry room floor...anda new champagne, and a new recipe for a quick meal.....
Hope your evening is a great one....
Hugs...

Demo Wednesday

So, the transformation has begun. It is a minor one, no walls being knocked down, just redoing the floors, and the baseboards, and replacing the toilet.
It is exciting. It will feel like a completely new bathroom, except it is still original...with the exception of the toilet. That old toilet with its 3.6 gal flush, would occasionally flush itself in the middle of the night or during the day....spooky....
It will be the same toilet we put in the Master bathroom....
We are keeping the old vanity. I rather like the old thing, it is low (perfect for shrimps like me to put on make-up) and the tile on it matches the bathtub......
Anyway, this is what we have right now. The washer and dryer are out on the patio...

The red stuff is a sealant that they use on slabs to seal out moisture (important in bathrooms and laundry rooms!). It has two coats of this.
Tomorrow, they will tile the floors....It is over 100 sq ft of tile.
After they tile the next day they will grout.....
And then the next day they will seal everything and replace the washer and dryer and put in the new toilet....
Stay tuned....

Garden protection

Okay, it's that time of year....
Evidence of night time animals that like to eat tomatoes and other goodies. Now, in our suburban area, we don't have lions, deer or those guys, but we do have rodents, possums, raccoons etc. and believe it or not, coyotes.....
Our yard is small, but we have packed it with produce, which is getting ready to be eaten....by us....
So, I did a search and found an interesting item that I wanted to share.
Traps and poison are difficult if you want to keep children and pets safe....so I found "Nite Guard".
It uses the "predator" idea of a red light that scares the varmints away! It is Guaranteed!
I ordered it on Amazon!
It will protect your chickens....your produce...what have you....
They recommend a cluster of three to four (we bought two) to cover a larger area....
One is supposed to protect about 200 feet!
Imagine....safe, solar, and average life of these lights is 3 years!
I think it is worth a try...How about you?? It cost $16.84 for one....

Here's wishing you happy produce!!
