Friday!!

Today is Friday...and has been a wonderful day!
The sun came out and signs of spring continued....just lovely.
I went out and gathered a few more things for our party we are having in June, so I would know what I need from the caterer.

I have enough dinner plates, almost enough silverware, definitely enough wine glasses, table decor mostly done...I don't like the grapevine stuff, it was wound too tight and won't "unkink"...
But mostly now I know that I want the caterer to provide the napkins in an "eggplant" color and champagne flutes...
The invitations are off...so there is no turning back now....
Hope your weekend is great!

Wacky Wednesday

Well, yesterday and today I have been planning and shopping for party supplies for an anniversary party we are giving ourselves...a little one, to celebrate 35 years! I had a long and wonderful post, but blogger is being frustrating...so I am going to show you pictures, and hopefully that will post.
don't you hate it when you spend over an hour on a post and then the thing doesn't work??
Hummmmmm
Anyway, two days of picking and shopping and I found 14 more mix and match white plates, and decor.

I am still on the search for more silverware, because I hate having to use plastic...and other touches are needed to. I did find in two magazines some great ideas...
This is from Flea Market Style and I think its fun although I will use a vase instead of the thermos....
And I am drawn to this for tables...
I saw an article once about making "mercury" glass with old bottles...if anyone knows where I can find that or if it works, let me know!
Have a great evening and I hope this posts!

Moody Monday

Today didn't go the way I thought it would....
So, I thought I'd show you some fun pix....

This horse tray is a handpainted tray I picked along the way at a thrift store...isn't it sweet??
The cork tray behind it was made by me, it was the first I made and lead me to sell them in my store, WildOakDesigns.etsy.com
There are lots of things for sale in the store right now and remember....if you are reading this blog, you can take the 20% off at checkout with the Coupon Code, "blogfriend". Yup, save on everything in the store!! 20%! Everything!!
This is one of many handmade items, although our store, WildOakDesigns.etsy.com, has vintage items too, including tablecloths, napkins, linen, table runners....you should go see! 20% off....not bad.....

Tucker says you should.....
Have a great evening!

Springing into spring gardening

So, today has been overcast all day.  Even so, it was time to change out my drapes. I have brown lined and insulated drapes for winter as our family room gets pretty cold in the winter (yes, even in Southern California)....
For summer a few years ago, I bought several yards of white linen and made summer drapes....so this morning I pulled them out and ironed each of them...all 8 of them....that took about two hours to redo all the drapes....since I am not quite done in the room, I will show you later.....
Then, I put on a load of laundry and headed out to the vegetable garden, the part behind the picket fence.
It needed a little trimming and fussing....so I redid my little paver "patio" and reseated the benches too....while I was at it, I trimmed all the bushes and hung the sweet windows that my daughter found for me. I think it looks pretty cozy....I have pillows for this area, but they can't stay out because of the sprinklers....I like the corner of "shabby chic"...a great spot for coffee or tea....

My fountain in the vegetable garden is about 12 years old. It had trouble starting up last week and I was excited that it got working....but it "died" this weekend....it just stopped. Very sad...need a new one...
The little tree in the corner, is a navel orange. It's name is Charlie (after Charlie Brown's Christmas tree). Charlie was in the big pot out by the raised beds and after three years looked more dead than alive, so I pulled it out and stuck it in the corner. It has been happy ever since! Now it is blooming! Go figure...
The other raised bed is planted with raspberries and a few veggies.... should be fun...
The goose decoy was a gift from my girls because I love geese....
I wanted to show you the lamp I bought yesterday at that garage sale...it works! And I put the "Easter" bunny in front...I thought that was cute.
Well, I am off to change the laundry...I have lots of it to do....
Hope your Sunday is a good one.

Garage sale-ing

So, I got up early to go out and look at the garage sales as there were some community sales.
Well, we didn't have much luck at first...then we traveled out around, with still no luck....
Sadly driving toward home there were some sales, close to home!
I consider myself fairly lucky....

These are Mother of pearl handled knives! 9 of them for $5!! With a good cleaning they probably can be used, but they are really cool.....
Then at another sale we found a big frame, and then this clay cook pot...

And then a neat lamp, both were a $1 each!!

So, sometimes we do well and others not so much.....
Oh, and this great picnic basket!!

Not bad I guess.....
What do you think??

Thrift store finds and garden redo

Sorry I missed posting yesterday...I was out "thrifting" and finding a few treasures...

This sweet little, well, it is a little bigger than 16 X 20, has a great print in it...makes me want to go for a walk through the trees...
Then I found this "hotpad" that is about 10" x 10" and padded and has cinnamon in it...I just thought it was sweet....

Now that isn't all I got...but it is a start...
Today, now that was a busy, busy day!
I needed to talk to the gardener about removing a ficus we had outside our dining room, in a pot...great privacy...but alas, it had grown and broken its pot and was falling over. No wonder, the thickest part of its trunk was almost 6"! Yup, time to go.....

So, we had the gardener remove that and some sword ferns that have been there since we moved in 23+ years ago....they are soooo dirty! They get into everything, in fact I am sure that some of them will return and we will be pulling them out for some time....

Boy, the area on this side of the house looks pretty awful right now without the plants...so I will show you the finished area later......
Then, after helping my wonderful hubby take his car into the shop to check its transmission...I loaded up my car and took my painted furniture pieces to Truly Tattered in Old Town Tustin to consign!
So, thank you Patti, and I hope the things sell this weekend.
Remember everyone, if you are in the neighborhood this weekend, Old Town Tustin has its Flea Market on Sunday!! Awesome, you should go....Lots of vendors and stop into Truly Tattered to say Hi to Patti...tell her you read this blog!!

Well, after dropping off my goodies with Patti, I spent some time with my daughter and then I came home to help my hubby get his car, and then I mailed a package to a customer and then I went to Ikea...but that wasn't the end of the day...
When hubby came home we borrowed a ladder from a neighbor to take lights out of a tree we had put up for a party two years ago, and the tree was starting to grow over all the cords...not good. So, he held the ladder and I climbed up about 12 feet to get the lights and cord down...we fixed the bluebird house, and then we brought in a different ladder to rehang a chandy and dust a few corners in our tall family room.....then I had to vacuum the yucky stuff that fell of the ceiling fan....
Now my day is done...
Phew...I am tired...
Talk later.

Working on the backyard....

Today was one of those days.....
I started off with one set of plans...and they got changed...not bad, just changed.
We went off on an errand with our daughters and son-in-law...took them our old adirondack chairs and a few other things and then had lunch...
After, we went to a couple of nurseries to get some plants....
There is one delightful, rather different nursery in Orange/North Tustin (Tustin Meadows Nursery). There we got three 1 gal tall plants and three dragon leaf begonias and a wonderful blue iris.
Then we went to Armstrongs and bought four pots....perfect for around the base of the fountain....
The Hubby went off to his dentist appointment and I for more pots. I traveled to Ace, and Home Depot, but they had not pots that I wanted. Then I remembered. The size pot I wanted is at Ikea! Yup, a 13" pot for $5.99! So I bought three. Perfect. They are having a pretty good sale on umbrellas and other outdoor things....
After, I came home and planted the begonias....after which, we had a chicken dinner BBQ! Yummmm
Did you know that Stonewall Kitchens makes an awesome Bourbon Molasses Mustard? It makes a superb glaze on chicken!

So, that was my day....What do you think of the fountain?? Let me know...give me some comments...

Fountain of youth...

Today, we went to the gym....yup the gym. Left a bit sore, not bad, just knew that we had gone to the gym.
Then, we took the dogs for a walk, our usual 3/4 of a mile walk. Then, we went to the market. No wait. We had the door bell ring...with something we didn't expect for a few days yet. There on the doorstep was a huge box, it made it almost impossible to leave for the market. So, we opened it. It was the fountain we ordered on Amazon.

It is reconstituted granite with resin, so it is a 1/3 the weight of a stone fountain. Which is good, because it weighed plenty!
It is awesome! The sound of water from the fountain is very soothing and just draws you out on the patio. Perfect. It was an awesome price...Did you know you can find most anything on Amazon?? Yes, you can. Shop and get to know everything about the items you are looking for, then shop Amazon...you will find bargains!
So, after the shopping that occurred after putting the fountain together, I started gardening...it was a beautiful day. I worked in the veggie garden and cleaned it up and planted some lettuce and cucumber seeds.
This is the "old veggie" garden behind this picket fence...here it was, protected from the dog and kids...Today, it is more shaded from neighbor's trees, so I grow lettuces, cukes and a few things here and there....
Then I just "played" in the garden....

After all that play, I worked on some roses out front that were suffering from rust, which being near the coast is not at all uncommon....This rose you see is "Black Magic" (Jackson & Perkins) which is in the backyard. These almost never need anything...the most wonderful rose...very hardy...not like the ones out front....
So, that is how I spent my day....How did you spend your day??

Meet Primrose

Well, yesterday I found a really sweet chair at a garage sale....
It had a new rush seat and the finish was in good shape...it just needed a little...well, paint. Yup, a makeover. So, this morning, out came the dropcloth onto the table and she got a couple of coats of French Linen....ahhhh, so much better! Perfect for so many decors and almost ready. Then, I felt she needed a skirt...well, a soft romantic slightly shabby chair skirt....so....well, I will let the pictures tell the story....

Before....

And After......
What do you think??
While the paint dried between time, I washed windows and screens, washed the patio off and took apart the old fountain I made about 15 or so years ago....
Hope your day was good and productive...
