Where did summer go??

Wow, where did summer go? It seems like just yesterday that we were out in the garden planting for summer veggies, and today I was cleaning up after all the summer crops. I planted 200 onion sets that I purchased and about 30 garlic sets. I am also roasting our pumpkins from the garden as well. We harvested 12 large Italian pumpkins from seed that I purchased from a 250 year old company. These pumpkins are fantastic. Great growers and producers!

See we at WildOakDesigns do not just sew all day...and if you look we have a new crop of Hollyhock seeds available. We also have some 4 o'clocks that have a fantastic fragrance, but a word of warning, once you have them, you have them forever, so be sure where you plant them! These plants develop huge giant taproots and though the plant itself breaks easily the main plant is below the surface and will come back. But in summer they are a delight!

We also had a great year for herbs and are working on offering some dried herbs.

Hope all goes well in your garden no matter how big or small.

Happy Halloween!

What to look for....

Today, I mailed out two more packages from WildOakDesigns. One to Oakland and one to Australia. It is interesting that so many more people are ordering gifts , whether for themselves or others, from online stores.

It makes sense actually, and I find I do that too. Why not? It saves time and money.

But what do we really look for?

Many of us just "Google" an item and see what turns up. Well, when we aren't sure where to start, why not? I have found that the first choice before "Googling" is a friendly referral. It is how we find the best doctors, dentists and yes, stores.

When we want integrity a referral is the best method. That is where twitter, facebook etc got started afterall.

So, with that in mind friendly referrals are very important. Take a look at the store site and see if there is a referral section as there is on Etsy. An even though Etsy now has a Facebook page and many of the shop owners have multiple referral areas, those are important to know what customers think. It can help find out quality, durability and style.

Online shopping is fun and so easy, the hard part is just waiting for the item to arrive. But it can be just like Christmas all year long.

We at WildOakDesigns strive for quality, durability and style. We are always perfecting the craft and since most items are one of a kind they are as special to us as they are to you.

Fall is coming!

As the garden gets straggly and almost finished off, I am making jams and freezing produce.
"Putting things up" is a pleasant task. Knowing that com Thanksgiving I already have organically grown green beans in the freezer and pumpkin puree for pies and muffins makes me feel so satisfied!
Another thing that is satisfying is knowing that there are gifts in the gift cupboard.
That is our hint of the day! Find a cupboard, place in a closet, or a trunk that can hold the gifts you find along the way. If you see something that someone would want, get it. Don't count on going back to get it. Then put a sticky note on the item and tuck it away. You can also make a master list somewhere on your computer. This is so helpful and avoids that last minute dash to get gifts!
Speaking of gifts, don't forget WildOakDesigns.etsy.com.
There are lots of gifts there for most on your list! Special requests for items are welcome!
Best wishes!

Flannel receiving blankets and burp cloths

Flannel, cotton flannel, is so soft, especially after a washing. It is a perfect blanket material for a cuddling wrap. They make perfect shower gifts! We stitch together two pieces of flannel with a scallop stitch and voila!you have the most adorable cuddly blanket! We have a couple on the website and more coming. Let us know what you think. Email us at the wildoakdesigns@gmail.com or at http://www.wildoakdesigns.etsy.com/ , we would love to hear from you!

We have also purchased some bamboo batting which is 50% bamboo and 50% cotton to use in our next quilts. It is very soft and cuddly and a completely "green" material. It is a more expensive batting, but you can feel so good about it. The label says its all organic so you can feel that much better wrapping your baby in it. Perfect also for gifts. So watch us grow!

Baby things

Wildoak as the new tag says, is what you will find on our newest addition to WildOakDesigns. We are creating all cotton or cotton and linen baby quilts. The quilts are crafted with cotton batting in the center and quilted in adorable prints. These are not recycled. But are darling bargains in fabric that just couldn't be passed up, so they are all still "one of a kind" and natural. Many haven't even hit our store at http://www.wildoakdesigns.etsy.com/.

They can be special ordered and even monogrammed with a darling baby's name. The name will be about 1/2" tall and can only be about 7 letters max. But now we have the ability to monogram in the traditional manner with three initials too! That is exciting!

So check us out at the website and see all the things we are now offering or make a special request by clicking on the contact spot in the site. Wildoak, it's what to remember!
